How to recover deleted photos and videos from Gopro hero camera

Problems: ok, before I hit the panic button please somebody tell me that all the photos and videos I took with my Gopro hero 2 HD is still recoverable, I am a x sport enthusiastic but not so good at tech and I mistakenly deleted all the videos and photos, I know that the videos were taken in mp4 format on a sd card with the Gopro camera, so please somebody enlighten me about how to recover deleted photos and videos from a Gopro hero camera?

Answers: Gopro HD hero camera is the best companion for adventurous people, it can be taken to places where no other camera can compete. Videos and photos archived by this baby are nothing short of preciousness. It is understandable that your panic button is about to be switched for mistakenly deleted all the videos from your Gopro hero. Be no panic, the photos and videos deleted from the Gopro HD camera are not permanently gone, the media can be recovered with proper photo recovery software without much hassle

The step by step guide to recover deleted videos and photos from Gopro hero camera

Download photo recovery for Gopro hero, the software has versions for both windows and mac

free-downloadDownload For Windows                  Download-for-MacDownload For Mac

Now connect your camera with computer

Launch the recovery software for Gopro, and click “scan”

Select media drive, an additional drive letter is assigned to the storage of your Gopro hero camera, besides your hard disk drive partitions

Now the “advanced scan” and “scan” buttons become active, in “advanced scan” you will be able to specify the file types the photo recovery software will be looking for, if you are not sure about what kind of files you have lost, just click “scan”

The scanning process may take a few minutes, the software will find all the recoverable videos, photos and audio files deleted from your Gopro camera and list them in the preview list

Select the files you want to have back

Recover deleted files from Gopro hero, and back it up somewhere on your local computer hard drive

The scanning process is completed but I still couldn’t find the video I accidentally deleted from my Gopro a while ago, what’s wrong?

The reason the photo recovery software fails to detect or deem the video/photo files irrecoverable could be overwritten, the delete action allows the operating system marks the memory space of the deleted photos as blank and reuse the space, if the camera has been heavily used for shooting videos after the deletion, chances are the old files will be corrupted due to overwriting on the memory. The jpeg software is able to repair files to an extent but the result is not guaranteed.

JPEG Repair

In the scanning result I am able to recognize the photos want to recover, but part of the photo is in grey color, is the photo recovery software able to repair my photo?

No, the photo recovery software doesn’t support file repair. However, Jpeg repair, as its name suggests, is specially designed to rescue recovered photos damaged, corrupted due to overwritten. It only supports jpeg file format, the software doesn’t work magic, it is functional to an extent, JPEG repair offers free trial that will evaluate the recoverability of a file, if the file’s perfectly presentable in JPEG repair’s evaluation, you can purchase the software and have your old photos back.

JPEG repair doesn’t work on mp4 videos captured by the Gopro camera.

This was a great tool. We are new at using the GoPro and made a delete mistake. We are very happy now our first ride with the new camera on our ATVs have been recovered. Thank you for making this available to us.

Did the software fail to detect the camera? Or it detected the camera, listed the recoverable file but failed to recover it?
If the software didn’t detect the camera, first exit the software, then pull the card out and stick it in the SD card slot on your laptop, start the software to see if the camera is detected.

connected Gopro to laptop (mac) started Stellar program, selected the SD card, and pressed Scan.

took some time for the program to scan my 32GB card. and once finished, program found a lt of files ( JPEG, MPEG , MOV ,M4A )

so bought the ‘ Key’ and pressed Recover, to actually recover these files , program “recovered” all the data (i left all found files checked)

but once done, i can’t play videos back.
JPEG are fine, but i ended up with a Lot of M4A files, and if i play them ( either in Quicktime or VLC) only shows black screen & no sound.

for instance a 27 second video clip is recovered as a 36,1 MB M4A file.
so i’m sure there must be Something there, either sound or Video.

does anybody know how to get these files to Play ? Different player ? if so, which 1 ?

The technical support page –, if you are in US, call 1-877-778-6087.
Chances are the video files are corrupted by overwritten, still, the tech support may be of help.

    Great product…however:
    1. It is not free (I paid $39.00)
    2. There is no guarantee it will work.
    3. Once you have ALREADY is when I discovered it didn’t recover any of my video files. It did recover most of my pictures.

    Good luck!

That’s not right! You can’t advertise it specifically for a GoPro VIDEO camera and have it only recover the still photos.
